Share The Road (GIF)

Ever been behind a bicyclist who thinks they can go 15 mph on main roads and get away with it? I know I have, and not that I have a thing against people on bikes, but maybe you should stick to roads that actually have a bike lane. It’s best for everyone. Painful GIF after the jump.

Hey stupid fuck…maybe you should learn to drive. Cyclists have EVERY right to bike on ALL roads except interstate highways and other high speed highways. “Bike lanes” are not requirements. And when worhtless pricks like you are behind me, I purposely take up more of the road. And go ahead and try something to…because I often have a camera on my handlebar to document stupid fucks like you who think you own hte road.dude..you write for a BLOG for a living! Don't EVER think you re better than anyone!

    • tehiv says:

“.. I purposely take up more of the road.”

Making you just as much a prick.
Good luck with that camera while you are lying in a ditch bleeding, fucktard.

    • Agavi says:

Hahaha.. Face it, man. Everyone hates you spandex wearing faggots. I’m not the kind of guy to laugh at someone being hit by a car, normally I would find that disgusting… But put a bicycle under the person getting hit and all of a sudden it’s hilarious.

      Get off the road, asshole.

  6. greg says:

Screw you dude. cyclists blow, everyone who owns a damn car understands this.

you're one of those cunts who think it's ok to cycle two abreast and fuck anyone behind em. die off!

  10. a cyclist says:

If there are no bike lanes present cyclists belong on the sidewalk. Collisions between a cyclist and a pedestrian are less injurious and far easier to avoid than collisions between a cyclist and a car. Pull your head out of your ass and show some responsibility for the safety of others and yourself.

  11. Dirk says:

do the speed limit or stick to bike trails/lanes ridiculous that bikers think they have some self righteousness about being on the roads,

  12. Flash says:

i dont mind cyclists. but “professional” cyclists seem to forget that there is a bike lane. the road in front of my house runs next to a park with a bike lane 6 feet off the road, but they seem to forget that it's there and ride in the middle of the single lane road. yeah, there are bad drivers, but riding two abreast UP A MOUNTAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LANE?, and when they dont move into single file, whos fault is it when someone gets his. just because your on a bike doesnt mean that you have the right to be a stupid douch any more than some punk in a car.

  13. I Fought The Car and I Won says:

Well the last time a Car Hit me on my bike I went through his windshield and he ended up in the hospital for 35 stitches… I was pretty much ok though… and so was my bike…

  14. Thisisme says:

Tell you what — my bicycle and I will stick to roads with cycle lanes once you've gone out and added cycle lanes to enough roads that I can actually get around that way.

  15. mdlnamemike says:

Am I the only one that noticed the cyclist was going the wrong way and pulled out in front of the car?

  16. Batty says:

    Depends which country he's in doesn't it…

  17. Batty says:

    Its a limit, not a target :)

  18. Morgan Feldon says:

Cyclists are entitled to all the same rights as vehicles, and in most states have the same legal standing as cars. You don't get to dictate the rules because you have 2 tons of metal rolling along with you.

Also, in most states, cyclists are not allowed on sidewalks and anyway this is more dangerous than cyclists riding on roadways. The operative word in sidewalk is WALK.

Why do cyclists ride out in the middle of the lane on certain roads? Because if we ride close to the curb, some people try to run us off the road. The law in Texas is, ride as far to the right “as is safe”.

Educate yourself and realize that just as there are bad drivers, there are bad cyclists who ride counter-flow traffic (very dangerous), don't wear helmets, and ride 2 abreast.

  19. Agreed. I totally don't get the point of this whole submission. Do the guys saying it's funny and bikes shouldn't be on the road not realise that the driver would go to jail for manslaughter?

That said, this is why I don't ride a bike, although I'd like to. Wish there were bike lanes.

  20. cyclist says:

    fuck youl.

  21. guest says:

what the hell is this post about? Proper bicyclists do ride on a bike lane, and do yield to cars when its safe to do so. But when its the only option, we do take the middle of the lane in order not to get clipped by some truck that thinks he can fit through.

Of course, there are idiots who don't know how to bike. Biking against traffic is the same as driving against traffic. Those are the idiots you should run over, to get them out of our gene pool.

And yes, I have been on the other side. I drive a car that does 0-60 in <6 seconds, but do I feel the need to run bicyclists off the road? I do drive 15mph behind a bicyclist until I feel it is safe for me to pass, at which point I do actually try to rev a little in order to let the guy know I'm moving up.

  22. Bike-Medic says:

    Looks pretty fake to me.
    1. Why would someone just be videotaping another care plodding along?
    2. “Bicyclist's” leg and body position doesn't change in the pre-hit frames. You would expect some reaction to a car coming at you at 100 kph
    3. The “rider” is so light it flies straight up.
    4. No real reaction from the driver of the videotaping car.

  23. jay says:

Flaming anyone here can't possibly be productive. Even if the person who posted this entry doesn't bother to read the comments, it's possible that many others will, so commenting is an opportunity. I'm fortunate to live in a city (Salt Lake) that has wide streets–even those without painted bike lanes are plenty wide enough to accommodate bikes and cars without making experienced and alert drivers and cyclists feel like they're jockeying for position. But I understand that many cities aren't there–yet. Bike lanes and paths *can* work, but there are problems. Bike lanes are often painted close enough to where cars park along the street that it's easy for bikers to get “doored,” or hit by careless drivers getting out of their cars. And bike lanes often end just outside areas of heavy pedestrian traffic, but well *before* cyclists arrive where they're going. There are laws in at least the huge majority of states that not only allow cyclists to ride on the roads but actually *require* them to, so bikers and motorists should be aware of those.

As for paths (off-street), they're often roads to nowhere–or at least nowhere too practical. Great for riding along a river or next to a golf course or through an industrial park, but not to an office or store. And bike paths are redheaded stepchildren when it comes to good signs and snow clearance. I'll keep riding on the roads, stopping at intersections, and smiling and waving at cars, thanks.

  24. dRewsus says:

yeah sure, except for where the cars are….
unless you are saying the cars are driving on the wrong side of the road?

  25. Guest says:

That guy probably died. That is not funny.

Also, I know you're safe in your big, fast, heavy vehicle. Try to remember that cyclists are vulnerable. They also have a right to most roads out there. Instead of getting pissed that you are going to be a few minutes later to wherever you're going, wait for a safe time to pass them.

    Asshole.

  26. DesinaCoda says:

Why was he going the opposite direction of the car to begin with?

  27. Rob says:

The GIF is probably fake, so whatever. But the fact does remain that there are a lot of asshole cyclists out there. Yeah, you can “legally” ride in the middle of a lane of traffic, but you can also legally smash your own face in with a hammer. I know several of these jerks that think all cars should obey them when they decide to ride their bike in the street. Heads up, street safety applies to cars as well, so keep your bike on the side of the road and follow the traffic laws like everyone else.

  28. Timmer says:

it's a dummy. the bike is not moving

  29. jonvid says:

this is ridiculous. There are no bike lanes where we need them! And, as a driver, why can't you just slow down to 15mph until it's safe to pass the cyclist? You're getting to your destination a lot faster than the cyclist is anyway, and polluting the earth a lot more while you're at it.

Why are you in such a hurry? Maybe YOU need a bike so you can actually enjoy your life, instead of speeding everywhere thinking that you are the only one that has the right to use the road.

P.S: They're called road bikes for a reason.

  30. Driver and Rider says:

For those of you who are bashing cyclists; go ahead and try taking to the streets with a bike for a few hours in any given city and you will quickly realize just how dangerous it is in some places.

I use a car to get to most places because the city I live in has NO bike lanes (and I live in a city with nearly a million people) at all, and I work 35 minutes away by car. If there were bike lanes I would probably ride a road bike to work, despite adding at least an additional hour to my commute each day.

Another commenter pointed out that cyclists take to the streets once a month during rush hour to raise awareness; most of the reason this happens is to promote bike lanes (it's called Critical Mass), as well as cyclist awareness. The cyclists aren't supposed to take up all lanes, just one lane, but sometimes asshat cyclists get included and block up the other lanes as well. The city gets tons of complaints as a result, and it pressures them to build bike lanes, which in some cases works.

Do you want to know why cyclists ride not as close as possible to parked cars while riding in the street? It's so they don't get doored by unobservant people. I have been doored once when I was riding far enough away from most parked cars in case their doors swung open, but traffic kept cutting me off (despite there being another unoccupied lane further over), and BAM, $1000 of doctor bills because somebody couldn't parallel park properly (they were 3' from the curb) or bother to look in their mirror before opening their door (it might seem funny, but if you were traveling at 30 MPH and hit a wall, how funny would that be?). Do you think I continue to ride as close as I can to parked cars while in the city? I doubt you would, either.

Most cities do not allow cyclists on the sidewalks, so they are REQUIRED by law to ride on the streets (regardless of whether or not there are bike lanes). Besides, it is very dangerous for both the cyclist and pedestrians if they are riding on the sidewalk (with people blindly wandering out of buildings, cars, etc).

Yes there are asshole cyclists, but the majority of them are not. If you have a problem with cyclists, tell your local government to build bike lanes. Give cyclists some respect.

  31. Jean says:

the difference between a**hole cyclists and a**hole drivers is big: cars maim and kill cyclists, while cyclists only inconvenience (slow down) cars. How important is it to save a few minutes?

I ride to work regularly and every couple of weeks have a dangerous encounter with a car, although I am very careful. I've also been harassed by people in cars (yelling things, revving engine) while riding in the bike lane – I live in a “bike friendly” city – Tucson.

Try to get over your anger about not getting somewhere really fast — and, yes I agree, there are some really obnoxious cyclists who ride two or three abreast when traffic is about. It's annoying, but do they deserve death?

  32. Gene says:

The reason why cyclists ride in the middle is to ensure that cars pass them safely. If you ride too far to the side of the road cars tend to make unsafe passes, whereas if you ride in the center of the lane, the car behind you is forced to pass safely by waiting for traffic to be clear in the adjacent lane.

  33. benjdm says:

“Ever been behind a bicyclist who thinks they can go 15 mph on main roads and get away with it?”

Ever been ahead of cars that think they HAVE to go >15mph on main roads and who think they can get away with unsafe passing and intimidation to do it? I know I have, and not that I have a thing against people in cars, but maybe you should stick to racetracks that actually prohibit bicycle and pedestrian traffic . It’s best for everyone.

Public roads are for the public to use to get places – by car, motorcycle, walking, running, bicycling etc. Learn the rules of the road better.

  34. benjdm says:

Following the traffic laws IS riding in the middle of a lane if the lane is too narrow for a car and a bicycle to safely share side by side.

Listen to your own advice and follow the traffic laws, please.

  35. Aren't the road laws that bicycles have to obey all road laws just as cars do? So why was he driving on the other side of the road?!

  36. Kevin says:

As being a cyclist and commuting to and from work with a bike, I agree but I disagree with a lot of arguments that come up. Do I ride in the middle of a lane, yes when I need to so I don't get cut off by a car while I am trying to make a turn. Do I ride away from cars parked on the side of the road, of course, too many close calls from people just swinging their doors open and not looking. I follow the traffic rules, I have front and rear facing lights and I wear a helmet. I've been hit by a car, because there are people who think that because I am on a bike I have no right to ride on the road, when I follow traffic laws more than most drivers by me.

  37. Dzrtrat says:

Education is what is lost, both with cyclists and cagers…. Roads are made for everyone, all should obey the laws of the road. Bottom line, the root is a lack of respect in both cases. I don't have bike lanes where I live…there are MUP's, however, they don't get me where I need to go. The other day I was riding within the law, a lady was pulling out of a parking lot, we had eye contact (so I know she saw me), but she still pulled out in front of me causing me to come to a complete stop…I had the right of way but she saw me as an inferior…If I was in my suburban she prolly would have thought different.
