From the land of WTF? and extreme marketing, Taco Bell officially launched a national petition today to the National Reserve to circulate more $2 bills — all this in celebration of their $2 Meal Deal. Here are some of the details from their full page ad in today’s USA Today:
The petition provides a unique way for fans of Taco Bell to be introduced to the $2 bill, or get reacquainted with it and unite in the new demand created by $2 Meal Deal.
The Federal Reserve prints all denominations according to demand. However, the $2 bill has not been in demand and production of the note is the lowest of U.S. paper money at less than one percent of all bills printed.
The last year the $2 bill was printed was 2006.
The scarcity of the $2 bill in circulation and the lack of public awareness for it have even inspired urban legends about its existence.
You can sign the petition on Taco Bell’s Facebook page. This is in all good fun with Taco Bell, and I have to say a very nifty way to market the $2 Meal Deal, but to me it just brings light to a very important question:
WHY WOULD I WANT TO GO TO TACO BELL TO GET A BAG OF DORITOS?
I think I may start a petition of my own to have Taco Bell change the bag of Doritos to let’s say, I don’t know, an order of their own nachos! Seriously, give me some nacho chips with a cheese cup and ditch the bag of Doritos. If I wanted even faker Mexican food I would go to my local gas station and get a microwavable burrito and a bag of Doritos. WTF?
